Relapse Prevention/Aftercare Group—Dual Diagnosis

Time: Relapse prevention program Denver meets Tuesday evening 6:00-7:30 PM and/or  Thursday evening 6:00-7:30  PM, and/or Wednesday morning 9:30-11:00 AM.

The cost of the program is $40 per group.   Group is limited to 8 participants and is facilitated by a Licensed Therapist. Clients may choose to attend 1 session per week or two sessions per week. Attendance can be anywhere from 8 weeks to 4 years, depending on the client’s needs. Our relapse prevention groups are available to clients who have been clean and sober for a minimum of 2 months. This is a therapy/process group and is not a 12 step group. We stress the importance of mental health issues as well as substance abuse issues.

The aftercare program is based on the principle that there are predictable warning signs that precede relapse and secondly, that relapse can be prevented if you can learn how to recognize and manage the warning signs. Additionally, we stress the importance of self-acceptance. Relapse prevention is a program designed to help you cope more effectively and to identify and overcome the stressors or triggers in your environment.  This program consists of the following components:

  1. Identifying High-Risk Factors, which includes patterns of thinking and behaving as well as social situations that can place you in danger of relapsing.
  2. Coping with Emotional and Physical High-Risk Factors. This includes negative feelings, cravings, physical discomfort, illness and information on how to create your coping plan. Relapse can also happen when you’re feeling good and want to feel even better, which is why relapse is common during holidays.
  3. Coping with Personal and High-Risk Factors. Helping to find safe ways to have fun with other people, find confidence in your recovery, and learn how to handle conflicts without turning to your drug of choice.
  4. Your Circle of Support.  understanding the importance of emotional and spiritual support, learn the positive qualities of sober, healthy friendships, and identify support resources.
  5. Finding your Strengths. How to deal with self-criticism, develop new beliefs about yourself and others, and apply past relapse prevention successes to future high-risk situations.  Most importantly, we learn greater awareness of our needs, how to meet our needs, and how to increase self-esteem and confidence.

Our program stressful mindfulness which enables us to respond in ways that serve us rather than react in ways that are detrimental to our health and happiness. Ultimately, we are working towards freedom from deeply ingrained habits, by working to bring awareness to the
range of choices available in our thinking and our behavior.

This program is free of charge for all COLORADO ACCESS MEDICAID patients.
